Watch out for Riviera

When I learned that we will be featuring Riviera for our golf course segment, i felt no pressure because i have played there numerous time when I was still a junior.

I would play at Riviera every weekend with my dad, his friends and his friends’ children. The course that we featured was the Couples course but i’ll be blogging about the other course because we usually played at the Langer course because it was the harder of the two courses. Back then I teed off from the red tee because I wouldn’t be able to reach the greens in regulation if I played with the boys in the white tees.

However after a few years, a few improvements in my game, I started playing in the blue tees. It was harder to hit from the men’s tee than the ladies not only for the difference in yardage but there is a different look when you play the men’s tee. The positioning of the ball is so different because the trees in the middle of the fairways are always a factor. The greens in Riviera is superb because it is maintained well by the people and I have to say that it’s one of the best layouts in the country.

The most memorable hole would be the 17th, the short par 3 with a huge ravine in front and in the back. It is extremely downhill. when I say down hill, it is really down hill. It’s hard to gauge your shot because your vision might be a factor because the hole is intimidating. So when you play at riviera, better watch out for hole number 17 :)
